The Online Spanish Language and Culture Course is designed for international students to gain a grounding in Spanish Language and Culture.

The program consist in AVE Global online program (by Instituto Cervantes) combining with a UPM Language Center Tutor to follow up learning for students during the first 30 hours of the course. It is designed to be compatible with other online courses from the Virtual Summer School from UPM.

The Spanish Language and Culture Program is run by experts in Spanish communication skills.

AVE Global is the Cervantes Institute’s platform for on-line Spanish courses, designed to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The courses consist in a range of topics supplemented with teaching materials, videos and interactive exercises. With this entertaining approach, students can learn Spanish effectively and independently on mobile devices any time, anywhere. The course cove a comprehensive suite of activities geared to the level chosen.

The course include a UPM Language Center Tutor to follow up the first 30 hours of the process of learning. Our aim isn`t just to assure that our students "know" the language; we want them to feel able to use it on a daily basis.

The courses on offer are designed to the latest approach to language teaching. Students may navigate freely through course materials and activities for 90 days, subject to no time restrictions.

A proficiency test is available as a guide to help users determine the most suitable level to their command of Spanish.



This program offers the following levels according to the Common European Reference Framework for Languages (CERF). Each course will focus on different communication issues and grammar and lexical resources.

  • Level A1 (Initial) - Courses A1.1(absolute beginners) and A1.2 (false beginners)
  • Level A2 (Elementary) - Courses A2.1 and A2.2
  • Level B1 (Intermediate) - Courses B1.1, B1.2, B1.3 and B1.4


Assessments and certificates

Users completing 80% or over of the activities comprising each course receive an academic notification by Instituto Cervantes to that effect.

UPM tutors will check the learning individual process and they can grant 2 ECTS if the completion of the program is satisfactory.



120€ per course. Starting days of the courses: July 6th or 20th.
